Let past content inform the next piece.

Review existing content with a clear purpose, comparable metrics and a decision log. Choose what to keep, update or test next without inventing results.

Archived content is checked against linked evidence before choosing the next item in an editorial plan.

Your busiest article is not automatically your most useful one. A content audit starts with what each piece was meant to help someone do.

Give each piece a job before judging it

Audit content by comparing its intended audience and purpose with evidence of reach, use and next actions. Start with a small collection covering one service or customer problem. Mixing campaign pages, support answers and broad educational articles in one ranking can hide what each does well.

Write a plain purpose for each item: answer a recurring question, help readers compare options, or prepare them to make an enquiry. Then choose evidence relevant to that purpose. A concise support answer can succeed without producing a long visit.

Try this now: select three existing pieces and finish the sentence “After reading this, someone should be able to…” for each. If the outcome is unclear, fix the brief before asking AI to diagnose its performance.
